National Cadet Corps
The genesis of National Cadet Corpts is traced back to the enactment of Indian Defence Force Act. 1917. Under one of its provisions the University Corps was constituted as a wing of the Indian Defence Force.

To create an organisation with the primary purpose of molding the youth of the country into better citizens, a committee headed by Dr. H.N. Kuzru was constituted and the National Cadet Corps (NCC) came into being, by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1948.

The NCC is not a para military organisation. It is a youth movement. It has enormous potential for nation building and with its total strength of over one million students from schools and colleges, NCC has developed into a valuable auxiliary to the education system. Nearly 12,000 teachers/professors from the educational institutions all over the country refereed to as Associate NCC Officers, constitute the back borne of NCC training staff.

The NCC provides exposure to the cadets in a vide range of activities, with a district emphasis on social service, discipline and adventure training. It has developed as the biggest youth organisation of the country, symbolising its motto of "Unity and Discipline".
