The Loyola Social Labs (LES) (From the 2001 report)

The major activities of LES for the year under report include Training Programmes, Research and Consultancy, Community Involvement, Nodal Continuing Education Centre, Nodal Agency for Childline, VCA for Adoption, and the Loyola Family Counselling Centre.

The programmes organised and conducted by the LES were of three categories. They were sponsored by Government Agencies, NGOs and the LES respectively. The LES training facility was also utilised by other NGOs, Agencies and Govt. Department.

It was relatively a busy period for LES in relation to Research and Consultancy services. Of the three year projects undertaken, two were of the Govt. of Kerala for the World Bank Project on "Kerala Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme'. The projects executed were a Needs Assessment study for Capacity Building and the Tribal Development Plan - RWS & ESP. An elaborate training module was also designed.

Another important consultancy program undertaken was the preparation of a Comprehensive HRD Plan for the Decentralised Participatory Child Programme. This was for the UNICEF in Nepal.

LES also took up studies on the two Industrial Training Centres run by Jesuits at Edathua and Pariyaram. / Yet another study for Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan is underway.

The other major programmes have been empowerment of urban women through the 14 NHGs of Pattom-Kesavadasapuram, the Nodal Continuing Education Centre, the Childline: free phone call service for children in distress (1098), VCA for adoption: with 55 registration and 35 given in adoption and Loyola Family Counselling Centre handling 246 cases.

The infrastructure facilities at LES have improved substantially.
