COLLEGE UNION
Loyola College of social sciences is a post Graduate educational institute dedicated to the cause of Social Sciences as well as the betterment of humanity. As per the University directive we have regular College Union Activities. It has been to the credit of the students that political party influences are kept out of the election process.

The major activities of the College union are a ceremonial inauguration and oath taking, Arts Day, Sports day, preceded by month long competitions, Planning Forum activities, Social Work Forum, College magazine, Seminars, talks, audio-visual shows etc. on current themes and the grand finale of the College Day celebration

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

The NSS Loyola Unit, provides the students an opportunity as a team, to put into practice the social theories imbibed within the four walls of the class. It's the litmus test for social commitment. The activities of the NSS include seminars, discussions, campus upkeep, celebrations, competitions and most importantly a ten-day rural live-in experience. The live-in exposes the participants to the ground realities of life and equips them with the skills necessary for planning, executing and evaluating action programs. Our volunteer core consists of the best volunteers in the whole university.

Two of our former students Mr. Ram Mahesh and Ms. Anjan V R Chandran were the winners of National Award for N S S volunteers

THE FORESTRY CLUB

The Forestry Club provides a venue for the students to reflect, discuss and act on matters concerning the environment. These 'friends of the forest' take the initiative in fostering the flora and fauna on the campus. Other activities include poster magazines, anti-plastic campaigns, nature treks, labelling of the trees and so on.

LOYOLA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The Alumni Association since its inception in 1964, acts as a chain, linking the present generation with the yester years. It provides for moments of sharing and working together for better professional advancement of the outgoing students. The association's activities include organizing get-togethers, seminars, resource mobilisation, resource sessions and placement. List of Eminent Alumni

THE PLACEMENT CELL

The placement cell takes on itself the responsibility of preparing the students for the rigours of employment vide, interview experience, networking, experience sharing and entrepreneurship development.

BLOOD DONORS FORUM

Every staff and student in the campus is a voluntary blood donor. At the beginning of the academic year, blood grouping is done and a list is maintained of the donors. A number of poor patients have been helped by the services of our Blood Donors Forum

GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL CELL

In Loyola we want to strengthen further the already existing communication network to foster the collegiality of the stakeholders. Being human nature what it is, there is always loose talk, grapevine and rumours giving rise to speculation leading to poor morale.

The open door-policy and the open house have served us well. Nevertheless we want to streamline the grievance redressal mechanism in Loyola. We want a simple, easily understood, speedy and just procedure to attend to individual or group grievances.

The overall objective of this mechanism is to ensure transparency in all our dealings. The Machinery

We envisage a three-tier set up to handle grievances of the students.
i. First Level: The functional heads (HODs and wardens of the hostel) shall attend to the individual grievances relating to the concerned departments. A decision if necessary, in consultation with others, and the grieved party shall be communicated in 48 hours of time.
ii. Second level: In case the individual is not satisfied with the decision, the matter shall be referred to the GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL CELL for its opinion. The committee shall consider the matter in detail and record the observation in seven days time. Unanimous recommendations of the cell may be implemented expeditiously. The management giving representation to all the functional departments including hostels and library and student representatives shall constitute the Grievance Redressal Cell. The number of students shall not be less than two.
iii. Third Level: If the aggrieved party is still unhappy with the findings of the cell the matter shall be left to the decision of the Manager and his decision shall be final.

Grievance Redressal for Teaching/Non-teaching Staff

The respective staff-councils shall be the appropriate forum for airing grievances and seeking redressal. Sub-committees shall, if necessary, be constituted to look into the matter for the just resolution of the grievances. In the event of a sub-committee looking into the matter, the decision shall be arrived at by consensus and communicated in 14 days time. In case the aggrieved staff is unhappy with the decision, the concerned person shall make a representation to the Principal. The Principal shall give his decision in seven days time. If the person still remains unhappy he/she can make an appeal to the Manager and his decision shall be final and binding.

A working group of three members including one student member of the grievances committee shall regularly monitor the activities. The group shall sort out grievances from suggestions, recommendations and new proposals. Grievances alone shall be referred to the competent person/body. Other things shall be set apart for the general body, management committees/governing body, for action.

LOYOLA LEGAL LITERACY CENTRE

Under the Government of Kerala scheme for implementing legal activities in the state, a Legal Literacy Centre was established in Loyola College of Social Sciences with the aid of the Kerala State Legal and Advice Board, Kochi. The center organizes awareness programmes, talks and such other programmes. The center was inaugurated on 19th March 1996 by the honourable justice Sri. R. Rajendra Babu. Ever since, the center has attempted to raise the legal awareness of the students and faculty. Luminaries like Sri Madhava Menon, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University have addressed the students under the aegis of the Centre

WOMEN'S STUDIES CENTRE

The introduction of women's studies in the higher education system was a major achievement for women's movement in India. Women's Studies units were envisaged as a mechanism of playing an interventionist role by initiating the gender perspective in many domains like the generation of knowledge, policy design and practice. Some of the sample programmes conducted by the Centre are i. Family Life Education, ii. Pre-marital Counselling iii. Weekly meetings to plan out programmes and discuss issues iv. Seminars on topics related to gender issues v. Publication of a wall paper titled GENDER TIMES"

Environmental Club

With a view to maintain the cleanliness of the campus, the whole college has been divided into small groups who take turn to clean up the campus.
