In 1993 the Govt. bifurcated the University College, Thiruvananthapuram as Graduate Section and Post-Graduate Section. Accordingly the Graduate Section of the University College was started at Kariavattom on 16th June 1993 with only the First year classes of B.A. Degree  courses. In 1994 B.Sc Classes were also shifted back to the University College Main Campus at Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram. The students of the Arts subjects who have been admitted in 1995-96 completed their courses  in 1997-98 at Kariavattom.
 

In August 1997 Kerala University accorded fresh affiliation to the Govt. College, Kariavattom with B.Sc, Course in Computer Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Statistics. Of these, B.Sc Computer Science and Biotechnology are semester courses, and B.Sc Biochemistry and Statistics are of the annual system. Even though the above classes were started on 26 November 1997 the formal inauguration of the new college was conducted only on 3rd July 1998 by Sri. E.K.Nayanar, the then Chief Minister of Kerala.

The College has an N.C.C unit and N.S.S unit working in full strength. The college is a study centre for the I.D.E( Institute of Distance Education) of the University of Kerala, for courses like BSc Computer Science and B.C.A. It is also a study centre of C.E.C(Continuing Education Cell) for courses such as PGDCA(conducted by Technical Education,Kerala),PGDBA and other courses like r-DNA Technology,Plant Tissue Culture,Communicative English etc. The Computer Lab of the college is well equipped with around 30 nodes connected to an IBM Xeon Server through LAN. The Biotechnology Lab is all set for r-DNA Technology and Plant Tissue Culture practicals and have facilities for Electrophoresis and Ultra Centrifugation. The College Library is a vast resource of knowledge with about 12000 titles and 15 journals in its shelf. A new building is nearing completion which will be entirely dedicated for laboratories. The College has a Placement Cell. Students have been placed in compnies like Wipro, Cognizant Technologies etc successively for the last 3 years. The College also has well-functioning Womens Cell.
