Christian College Kattakada, a Government aided College affiliated to the University of Kerala,
is located in the Poovachal Panchayat area under Nedumangad taluk, 20Km. east of
Thiruvananthapuram City, Kerala State, South India.

The College is governed by the Society for Higher Education of the South Kerala Diocese of
the Church of South India. Christian College Kattakada was established in 1965 as the
embodiment of the leadership, prayers, aspirations and sacrifice, the sweat and toil of the
S.I.U.C. Community of the South Kerala Diocese. Ever since it’s inception, the Institution
had to face many challenging ordeals but has succeeded in keeping it’s steady progress
and growth to achieve it’s present status of a reputed first grade, post graduate College.
The members of the Diocese, the public and those associated with the College have
contributed liberally towards it’s growth, and the institution stands today due to the combined
efforts of a whole community and it’swell wishers. The selfless services and dynamic leadership
extended by the founder Chairman of the College, The Most Rev. A. H. Legg, the first Bishop
of the South Kerala Diocese, the founder Manager. Rev. J. W. Rasalam,the founder Principal,
Prof. P.G. Edwin and Mr. A. Charles, Ex.- Member of Parliament and Liaison officer of the
College Committee and other members of the committee constituted for the establishment
of the College, needsspecial mention. The leadership and endeavours of subsequent Chairmen,
Managers and Principals have gone a long way in bringing up the institution to its present stature.

The College had a humble beginning in 1965 as a junior college with about 280 students and
ten teachers.
We started with Pre-degree classes in the following four groups.

Later 4^th group with Commerce subjects was started in 1977. For the above courses English
was taught as firstlanguage and Hindi / Malayalam as second language.

The College was up graded in 1976-1977 with the starting of B.A. History degree course.
Subsequently, degree courses in Botany (1978), Mathematics (1979), Physics (!980),
Economics (1980), Statistics (1982), Chemistry(1993), B.Com (1998) and Computer
application (1999) were added.

In 1995, the College was elevated to the status of Post Graduate College with the introduction
of M.Sc. Botany (with special paper- Biotechnology). Later M.Sc. Physics (with special paper
– Electronics) and M.Sc. Chemistry(with special paper- Organic Chemistry) were started.
Presently Christian College Kattakada is a full fledged arts and science college catering to
the needs of the local, rural and adjoining urban population. We put our trust on The Almighty
God to continue to strengthen us to serve the people.
