Patent for oil extraction

Patent for oil extraction Researchers at the Plant Biochemistry unit, Department of Botany, University College, Thiruvananthapuram, have obtained a patent (File No: 983/MAS/2000) on production of edible red Palm Oil and Oil cake from oil palm fruits by dry method.

This research group, led by Dr. C. Mohan Kumar, has been focussing on the biochemical and molecular aspects of oil palm and coconut since 1994. This novel method was found to be easier, more hygienic economical and thereby a better alternative to the traditional wet processing technique.

Dr. Mohan Kumar has also applied for another patent for a new plant product, (Biogreen) found to be effective in controlling mite infestation in coconut.
