Loyola College of Social Sciences, a premier institute of social sciences, was established in 1963 and it is run by the Jesuits. The college currently offers two post graduate courses - M.A. (Sociology) and M.S.W. (Social Work). It is a recognized research centre as well. One of the singular achievements of the college is a well established Extension Centre with a variety of programmes like Urban Poverty Alleviation,

 

Family Counselling, Voluntary Adoption, training for various categories of people both Governmental and Non-Governmental, Research and Documentation. The field work activities of the students and the professional staff of Loyola Extention Centre, together have developed unique expertise which is being used by Non-Governmental agencies within and even outside Kerala.

Loyola Journal of Social Science is a biannual published by the College for over a decade now. The University of Kerala has recognized its merit through annual awards. Loyola Staff publish regular working papers and contribute to scientific journals and books.

The college runs two hostels, for men and women students separately. Besides, the Loyola Extension Centre the college also provides residential facilities for its trainees.
