Govt. College, Nedumangad

The Government College, Nedumangad was started in 1981 with one batch each for the History and Commerce groups of the Pre-Degree Course. Initially, it functioned in Government U.P.S. Nedumangad and was shifted to its own building at Akkottupara in 1989.

 

The College became a First Grade College in 1991 when a Degree course in Commerce was started with fifty students. Subsequently, two more Degree Courses in History and Economics were sanctioned and the College secured U.G.C. approval in 1997. Now, the U.G.C. has sponsored a vocational degree course in Commerce with  Tax Procedure and Practice as the optional subject.

The total stength is about 800 of whom girls out-number boys. A very significant aspect of this college is that the majority of the students belong to the socially and educationally backward classes. The tribals, scheduled castes and backward communities who form the majority of Nedumangad Taluk, depend on this institution for their education.
